EcoActive® Green Concrete Paving

EcoActive® Green Concrete Paving

At Tsimentodomi, we have always prided ourselves on being a pioneering and innovative company. Since 2012, we have been dedicated to testing, designing, and developing cutting-edge photocatalytic technology in collaboration with our scientific partners. This remarkable technology has now been seamlessly integrated into our innovative production program.

As a result, our product range now features the exceptional EcoActive® concrete paving blocks and flags. What sets our EcoActive® series apart is that these products go far beyond surface coatings, as they incorporate pollution-degrading properties directly into the concrete matrix itself. This unique approach offers numerous advantages.

Not only do our EcoActive® products contribute to the improvement of construction projects, but they also play a crucial role in protecting the environment, preserving our cultural heritage, and promoting overall sustainability. These photocatalytic, self-cleaning materials possess the remarkable ability to cleanse their surfaces of pollutants with a simple rinse, requiring minimal effort from users. Moreover, they actively contribute to environmental conservation and disinfection, thanks to their photodegradative properties.

By constantly producing free oxygen radicals, our EcoActive® products facilitate the purification of air, effectively eliminating gas pollutants emitted from exhaust emissions. This dual functionality ensures that EcoActive® technology not only enhances construction but also actively contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Covering a surface of 1000 m2 using precast EcoActive® photocatalytic paving blocks and flags is equivalent to the oxygen production produced by 70 large trees (poplars), an amount that breaks down up to 70% of the pollutants produced by 30 cars!!!

Environmental Benefits

EcoActive® photocatalytic paving blocks and flags have the remarkable ability to break down pollutants by up to 50% within 24 hours of exposure to solar or even artificial (indoor) lighting. With prolonged exposure, complete degradation can be achieved. These innovative building elements, incorporating photocatalytic technology, offer a wide range of possibilities in construction, providing direct benefits to both users and the environment.

The utilization of new building materials, such as EcoActive® products, has the potential to revolutionize the construction industry, particularly in terms of floor coverings and building coatings in heavily polluted urban environments. These materials can effectively combat the degradation caused by pollutants emitted from sources like car exhausts (NOx, COx, CO, NH3, H2S), heating systems (chimneys, burners), power industries, and other fuel-based corporations.

However, it is important to note that the application of liquid photocatalytic systems as a surface coating is not a permanent solution and lacks efficiency due to the effects of solar radiation and surface abrasion. Consequently, it is not recommended to use photocatalytic surface coatings on floor coverings as they gradually wear off.

In contrast, our EcoActive® building materials possess embedded photocatalytic properties within the concrete matrix itself, ensuring their effectiveness at a depth of at least 4 mm. Interestingly, as the surface abrasion increases through wear and tear, the performance of EcoActive® paving blocks and flags improves, leading to increased degradation of gaseous pollutants!

The application of photocatalysis technology has been extensively utilized in Japan for several years and is now being piloted in various European countries, including Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Greece. Numerous European companies and educational institutions have filed similar patents, demonstrating the growing interest in this field.
